Who We Are:

American Opportunity Zone Fund is a private equity real estate investment firm specializing in real estate investments in opportunity zones throughout America.

We invest in a wide variety of projects designed to maximize the capital gains deferral and exclusion benefits available as defined under the tax code. We are committed to helping our investors and developers maximize this unique investment tool while helping communities achieve their dreams and vision. We do this by sponsoring a variety of Opportunity Zone Funds that investment funds directly in real estate projects across the United States.

Founders

Mark E. Peterson

Mark E. Peterson

Managing Member

Mark is a co-founder and Managing Partner of American Opportunity Zone Fund, LLC, and is a Managing Member of the General Partner. Mark has been a practicing attorney for over 12 years, including time in both California and Texas. Mark has substantial experience with structuring and closing complex corporate and real estate acquisitions, financings and divestitures, senior and mezzanine financing transactions, bankruptcy and foreclosure matters, land use and entitlement issues, and property management and leasing transactions. Mark has represented Fortune 500 companies, private equity funds, venture capital funds and family funds on mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, and financing transactions in a number of different industries.

Mark earned a B.A. in Economics from Brigham Young University and graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School, where he was an editor of the Michigan Law Review. He is a member of the Texas and California State Bars.

John Krueger

Managing Member

John Krueger has been consulting with companies and communities on the optimal locations and policies for successful company growth for almost 20 years both in California and Arizona. He has helped more than 700 companies evaluate expansion options in the areas of tax, workforce, incentives and real estate analysis. Many of these companies, such as GAP, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Amazon.com, Microsoft, Cessna, China Sunergy, and Centene have relocated and/or expanded their operations and have resulted in the creation of more than 10,000 jobs, $520 million in annual payroll, $970 million in capital investment, and absorption of more than 9 million square feet. This expertise allows John to analyze projects for potential development pitfalls and/or long-term success potential which dramatically increases the likelihood of larger ROI for investors

Michael Faust

Michael Faust

Managing Member

Faust serves a Managing Partner for American Opportunity Zone Fund where he brings substantial real estate project management, transaction, finance, public policy and economic development experience to this position. His diverse experience in the real estate, finance and related activities gives the Fund important expertise needed when sourcing projects and growing the fund. This knowledge comes from his experiences running both small and mid-sized companies and most recently serving as President of MEF Consulting. MEF Consulting is a full-service firm that develops and implements project management services that integrate transaction work with business development, policy, community outreach and communications strategies for organization that are working on real estate projects and other economic development activities. A snapshot of clients includes: the largest land development company in Northern California and its related companies, telecommunication infrastructure companies, clean energy company, railroad, agriculture technology, a major health care system and multiple non-profit entities. Over his career, he has served as the CEO and President of the Northern California World Trade Center, the Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Economic Development for the Sacramento Metro Chamber, Managed Corporate Development for the Sacramento Kings, Vice President of American Pacific Mortgage Corporation, Vice President of Government Affairs for the California Association of Mortgage Brokers, Vice Chairman for Government Affairs of the National Association of Mortgage Brokers and President/COO for Pacesetter Financial. He has served as the Senior Consultant for a Member of the California Assembly and as a staff member for two Members of Congress in Washington D.C. He has served on national, state and local boards and commissions, run campaigns across the country and was the Director of Political Services for a major statewide party. His formal education includes a Master’s Degree from George Washington University and a Bachelor’s Degree from Louisiana State University.
